The issues of preparation and holding of a referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan were discussed at the meeting of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the head of the mission of the Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) Albert Jonsson, held on April 20.
The Head of our state noted with satisfaction the fruitful contacts, the established open and constructive dialogue with the OSCE.
It should be noted that last year the OSCE Chairman, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, Secretary General of the Organization Helga Schmid, High Commissioner for National Minorities Kairat Abdurakhmanov visited Uzbekistan.
The Bureau's experts participated in the modernization of the national electoral system, including the development of the Electoral Code of our country.
Recommendations based on the results of full-scale ODIHR missions at the national elections held in Uzbekistan in 2016, 2019 and 2021 were taken into account and implemented.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on various aspects of organizing the referendum in accordance with high international standards.
The head of the mission Albert Jonsson expressed support for the processes of further deepening of democratic transformations in the New Uzbekistan, reflected in the updated Constitution of the country.
