A round table dedicated to the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and the Kengashi of People's Deputies was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Beijing.
The event was attended by more than 60 representatives of Chinese socio-political, business and academic circles, as well as local journalists.
The participants were informed that at the next meeting of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan, which took place on July 26, it was announced that parliamentary elections would be held in the country on October 27.
It was emphasized that these elections will be held in a completely new socio-political environment conditioned by the updated Constitution of Uzbekistan.
In particular, it was noted that these elections will be held for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan on the basis of a mixed, i.e. majority-proportional electoral system.
It was emphasized that a new system of electoral bodies had been introduced under the leadership of the Central Election Commission, and the proportion of women candidates for deputies from political parties had been increased, which should be at least 40 percent.
In order to enhance the role of representative bodies in resolving issues, the participants of the event were informed that previously, the powers of 33 governors had been transferred to local Kengashes.
