On June 1, Uzbekistan will begin the phased implementation of the "Eco-friendly Transport" system to monitor compliance with permissible standards of harmful emissions into the atmosphere from all categories of vehicles.
According to the results of the diagnostic inspection of the car, car owners will be given green, yellow or red eco-stickers protected from counterfeiting with electronic labeling, depending on the harmful emissions of the vehicle, restricting the passage of cars to certain ecological zones of the city. Owners of electric vehicles and new cars, as well as vehicles that have been released no more than three years ago, will receive green eco-stickers for free and without diagnostics.
This is provided for by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers "On measures to reduce the negative impact of vehicles on atmospheric air." According to the adopted document, the territories until 2030 will be divided into ecological zones based on the real environmental situation related to air pollution — "clean" (green), "medium" (yellow) and "harmful" (red). The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the khokimiyats of cities and regions will determine and change the boundaries of environmental zones in the regions according to the proposals of the Ministry of Ecology.
Thus, drivers of vehicles whose environmental parameters do not correspond to the region's zone, except for emergency services and public transport, will not be able to enter it or will pay compensation. The funds received will be used to improve the environmental situation in the country and protect the environment.
The measures will be implemented in stages. From 2024 to 2026 in Tashkent. In 2026-2028, in Nukus and regional centers and, if necessary, in separate eco—zones - tourist centers, nature reserves, recreational areas and others. At the final, third stage — from 2028 to 2030 throughout the republic.
