On February 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with a presentation on measures to expand the production of electric vehicles.
Our country has extensive experience and the necessary infrastructure for the automotive industry. Today, 8 factories produce dozens of types of cars, passenger and freight transport, agricultural and special equipment. More than 2 thousand enterprises produce components and spare parts on the basis of cooperation.
At a meeting held in December last year, the head of our state stressed that electric vehicles are rapidly entering our lives, and gave instructions on the development of this area. During his state visit to China in January this year, the President visited the headquarters of BYD. Together with this company, a project for the assembly of hybrid and electric cars has been launched in the Jizzakh region. At the meeting with the head of this company, an exchange of views took place on bringing the production capacity to 500 thousand units in the near future.
The demand for work in this area is evidenced by the fact that over the past three years, the sale of electric vehicles in Uzbekistan has increased 10 times, in 2023, 35 percent of car imports were electric and hybrid cars.
In this regard, the responsible persons were instructed to expand previously defined plans for the electric vehicle industry and accelerate the implementation of projects. The need to establish localization of components for electric vehicles with the involvement of partners from BYD was emphasized.
To be competitive in this new industry, first of all, innovation and advanced technologies are needed. Therefore, the task has been set to create an integrated system linking the Turin Polytechnic Institute, engineering centers, scientific institutes and laboratories.
Also, with the development of this area, the demand for specialists and workers will increase. In the next three years, this need may reach 10,000 people. In this regard, it is indicated that it is necessary to start training qualified personnel right now.
It was decided to develop a program for the development of an electric vehicle charging station network.
