A large gas chemical complex is being built in Surkhandarya

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the construction of the gas chemical complex "25 years of Independence" in the Baysun district of Surkhandarya region.

The gas field was discovered here several decades ago. However, due to the difficult geography, the lack of modern technologies and funds at that time, no one dared to master it.

Thanks to the determination of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, practical steps were taken in this direction. The Head of State was here in April 2019 and got acquainted with the preliminary geological exploration and feasibility study. In December of the same year, the construction of the plant began.

The cost of this project, implemented by the foreign company "Surhan Gas Chemical Operating Company", is $ 2.9 billion. The complex will have the capacity to extract and process 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

At the moment, $ 1 billion 450 million has been invested in the development of the field, drilling operations on 20 wells have been completed. 11 gas wells have been successfully tested. Foundation works and construction of metal structures have been almost completed.

The projects and construction of the plant are carried out on the basis of licensed Shell technologies. It meets the most modern environmental requirements and is able to neutralize 99 percent of harmful production waste. Such equipment is installed at this plant for the first time in the CIS countries.

Another important aspect is that the plant itself generates electricity and supplies it to the residents of the district.

Here the head of our state got acquainted with the results of geological exploration and seismic studies. A conversation took place with investors, specialists and builders involved in the development of the field.

- The main goal should not be the sale of gas in the form of raw materials, but its processing and production of value-added products. In order for investments to pay off quickly and the plant to be competitive, it is necessary to ensure that the final products are of high quality and profitable," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The task was set to develop an appropriate resolution.

The complex is located 20 kilometers from the city of Baysun. Currently, more than 7,000 people work on its construction. The first stage will be launched in May next year and will reach full capacity in 2025.

The plant will become the eighth gas chemical complex in our country, one of the largest industrial enterprises of Surkhandarya. Many thousands of people will be provided with highly profitable jobs.

- Residents of Baisun should feel that such a huge factory has been built in their area and thousands of jobs have been created. Now it is necessary to develop related industries around this complex," the President said.

There was also a presentation of a project for the development of a promising oil shale deposit in Baysun. Information is provided on the possibilities of obtaining electricity, shale oil and gas on its basis.
