On September 19, as part of participation in the general debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Secretary General of the Organization Antonio Guterres.
Prospects for further expansion of Uzbekistan's cooperation with the UN, primarily on the implementation of national objectives and goals in the field of sustainable development, were considered.
The achievement of an unprecedented high level of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN in recent years was noted with satisfaction. About 140 joint programs and projects are being successfully implemented. On the initiative of the Uzbek side, it was adopted
6 resolutions of the UN General Assembly, there is a Trust fund for social support of the population of the Aral Sea region.
Uzbekistan has been elected a member of a number of authoritative UN structures and actively participates in their activities. Major international events with a global agenda are jointly held, in particular on issues of ensuring food security, tourism development, combating poverty and climate change.
Antonio Guterres highly appreciated today's speech by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the 78th session of the General Assembly, emphasizing support for the program of irreversible reforms in the country, as well as the importance of the proposals and initiatives voiced to solve urgent global and regional problems.
The Secretary General emphasized the scale of the goals and objectives of the new reform strategy "Uzbekistan – 2030", its full consonance with the Sustainable Development Goals. He expressed the readiness of the UN and all its institutions to contribute to the practical implementation of this program document.
Following the talks, an agreement was reached on the development of a "roadmap" on priority areas for deepening full-scale partnership between Uzbekistan and the UN.
