On September 19, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
During the meeting, the measures taken for Uzbekistan's early accession to the WTO were discussed.
The Head of our state emphasized the importance of joining the organization, including taking into account the set goals of medium- and long-term development.
The President of Uzbekistan focused on the preparation of the next meeting of the Working Group, as well as strengthening the capacity and professional development of the specialists involved in the process.
The Director General of the WTO highly appreciated the measures taken by Uzbekistan to join the organization.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed the WTO Secretariat's full support for Uzbekistan's efforts, as well as confidence in the country's accession in the near future.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to accelerate the next meeting of the Working Group, improve the skills of specialists and assist in the harmonization of legislation with WTO agreements and rules.
