On September 7, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu, who is in our country to participate in the International Conference on Food Security.
At the beginning of the meeting, the leader of our country congratulated the distinguished guest on his re-election to the post of head of the leading branch structure of the United Nations and expressed gratitude for the support and personal participation in the conference, which is being held in the city of Samarkand these days.
The Director General of FAO congratulated the President of Uzbekistan on the successful implementation of the initiative and the organization of an international forum on the current global agenda at the highest level.
The sides exchanged views on countering modern challenges and threats to food security, including at the regional level.
Imbalances in the development of the agricultural sector, water scarcity, long and inefficient value chains, logistics failures and others are identified as the main risks of sustainable development.
An agreement was reached on the inclusion in the new Program of cooperation between Uzbekistan and FAO until 2030 of joint measures for the modernization of agriculture based on scientific research and innovation, digitalization of the agricultural sector, the implementation of effective financial support tools and the introduction of effective management mechanisms of the agro-food system.
