Mirzo Ulugbek School opened in Karabakh

On the second day of the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Azerbaijan, the heads of the two states together with their spouses visited the cities of Fuzuli and Shusha.

Over the past almost 30 years, Fuzuli has been completely destroyed and turned into a ghost town. Before the hostilities, about 18 thousand people lived here.

After the start of restoration work in 2020, life is gradually returning to the city. Housing, social and transport infrastructure are being built.

At this important and difficult moment, Uzbekistan stands next to Azerbaijan. After all, the relationship between our peoples has its roots deep in history. We are united by one religion, the proximity of language and traditions, spiritual values and cultures.

As a sign of lasting friendship and solidarity, the head of Uzbekistan at the informal summit of the Turkic Council on March 31, 2021 noted Uzbekistan's readiness to contribute to the restoration of monuments, cultural and educational facilities in the land of Karabakh.

The practical implementation of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan was the construction of a modern school No. 1 named after Mirzo Ulugbek in the city of Fuzuli, designed for 960 students.

The school has 40 classrooms, 6 laboratories, 2 computer science classrooms, 5 functional classrooms, assembly and sports halls, a dining room, and a library. A football field, places for recreation and events, running tracks have been built on its territory.

The new school will serve to further bring our peoples closer together, introduce young Azerbaijanis to the rich history and culture of Uzbekistan, the heritage of our great ancestors.

The leaders of the two countries, together with their spouses, cut the red ribbon and solemnly opened the school.

The Presidents inspected the academic buildings and the school grounds, had a warm conversation with the students, wishing them success in their studies.

Then the heads of state visited a residential complex under construction in the city of Fuzuli.

The Presidents met with the residents of the massif, who were handed the keys to the new apartments. The Head of our state congratulated them on their housewarming.

The sincere conversation spoke about the strong friendship and fraternal relations between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

The leader of our country noted with satisfaction the return of life in Fuzuli to normal, highly appreciated the creative work carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev on the restoration and development of Karabakh, ensuring the most comfortable conditions for the population. The wishes of peace, tranquility and prosperity to the people of Azerbaijan were expressed.

The heads of State visited the new apartments. Then the leaders went up to the observation deck and examined the consequences of the destruction and the progress of construction work. The President of Uzbekistan was told about plans to restore Fuzuli.
