On August 20, on the sidelines of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Emir of the State of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of the Republic of Serbia Alexander Vucic and Head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
The sides exchanged views on topical issues of bilateral practical cooperation.
The leaders also watched the final race of the world championship at a distance of 100 meters among men.
The XIX World Athletics Championships will be held at the new National Athletics Center in Budapest from August 19 to 27, 2023. Medals are awarded in 49 types of the program – 24 types each for men and women, as well as in the mixed relay. More than 2,000 athletes from more than 190 countries take part in the competition.
Five athletes from Uzbekistan also participate in the championship in such sports as high jump, triple jump, long jump, heptathlon and marathon.
The winners of the competitions and athletes who have fulfilled the Olympic standards will be eligible to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris.
