On August 18, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the United Nations headed by the Assistant Secretary General of this authoritative global structure for Political Affairs and Peace-building Miroslav Yencha.
The issues of further expansion of multifaceted cooperation with UN institutions and centers within the framework of the implementation of long-term Sustainable Development Goals were discussed.
At the beginning of the meeting, High Representative Miroslav Jenca conveyed to the head of our State the sincere greetings and best wishes of the Secretary General of the organization Antonio Guterres. It was stressed that the UN structures are ready to continue to fully support the program of irreversible reforms for the construction of a New Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that in recent years, our country's mutually beneficial cooperation with the UN has reached an unprecedented high level. About 140 programs and projects are being implemented jointly. At the initiative of the Uzbek side, 6 resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly were adopted.
Uzbekistan actively participates in the activities of the Human Rights Council, the Commission of the Economic and Social Council, the UNESCO Committee on Cultural Heritage and many other structures.
Only in the second half of this year, a number of significant international events are planned to be held in our country within the framework of the UN, in particular the FAO Conference on Food Security and the 25th anniversary session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization.
During the meeting, prospects for practical cooperation in the implementation of national objectives and goals in the field of sustainable development were considered.
Special attention is paid to the issues of deepening good-neighborly relations and partnership in Central Asia and strengthening the role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in this process.
