A briefing was held at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing for representatives of the diplomatic missions of the SCO "big family" on constitutional reforms and the upcoming early presidential elections of Uzbekistan on July 9.
According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, the main speaker was the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Akmal Saidov.
The briefing was attended by representatives of the SCO member States, observer countries and dialogue partners.
Opening the event, SCO Deputy Secretary General Nuran Niyazaliyev noted that dynamic reforms in all spheres of public life have been carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years. Today Uzbekistan is going through an important, milestone period in its development.
So, in April of this year, a referendum
on updating the Constitution was successfully held. Representatives of the SCO Secretariat, who took part in this event, saw firsthand the large-scale transformations being carried out in the country.
At the same time, Nuran Niyazaliyev expressed his conviction that the upcoming presidential elections of Uzbekistan on July 9 will also be held at the highest level. The leadership of the Secretariat plans to take traditionally active part in this political event as international observers.
In his report, the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan Akmal Saidov familiarized in detail
with the main results of constitutional reforms and their role in the construction of a New Uzbekistan. Special attention was focused on the process of preparing the presidential elections of Uzbekistan, the essence and significance of this election campaign in the further development of our country and its transformation into a modern, competitive state were explained.
