President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) within the framework of the events of the first day of his official visit to Italy and held a meeting with its Director General Qu Dongyu.
Practical aspects of expanding Uzbekistan's cooperation with this important international specialized institute were considered, primarily in such important areas as modernization of the agricultural complex and ensuring food security.
The leader of our country noted with particular satisfaction the results of fruitful cooperation in recent years.
The FAO office is successfully operating in Uzbekistan. Over the past few years, the portfolio of cooperation projects has tripled and today covers such areas as land and water use, agro-industrial complex, forestry, ecology, animal husbandry and many others.
Interest was expressed in further expanding the partnership in the context of increasing global food security risks.
Among the priority areas identified is the development of a new full-scale Cooperation Program until 2030, which provides for the implementation of specific projects and activities in the field of food security, basic scientific research, digitalization of agriculture, assistance in solving environmental problems of the Aral Sea region and other areas.
The issues of preparation for the upcoming High-level International Conference under the auspices of FAO in Samarkand were also discussed.
Director General Qu Dongyu highly appreciated and supported the structural reforms carried out in Uzbekistan aimed at modernizing the agricultural sector.
At the end of the meeting, the leader of our country wished the Director General success in the upcoming elections of the head of FAO in July this year.
