Uzbek President Advocates Further Expansion of Mutually Beneficial Cooperation with the EU



On May 17, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the European Union headed by the Executive Deputy President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis on the sidelines of the Samarkand summit of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The issues of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation among Uzbekistan and EU institutions, including a regional format, were considered.

Valdis Dombrovskis conveyed to our President sincere greetings from the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and from the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. A support for the ongoing program of irreversible democratic transformations and socio-economic reforms in New Uzbekistan was expressed.

Following the meeting, the sides satisfactorily noted intensifying contacts, productive exchanges, and the growing dynamics of interaction in trade, investment, green economy, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, as well as in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

The trade turnover of Uzbekistan with the EU countries has increased by 65 % since the beginning of the year. The portfolio of ongoing and promising projects with leading European companies and banking-financial institutions exceeds € 20 billion.

The importance of continuing an intensive dialogue with the EU institutions, primarily on the economic track, was emphasized. The focus is on the adoption of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, our country's accession to the World Trade Organization, participation in the   «GSP +» preferential system.
