The Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan announces the international contest for the 17th National Award “Oltin Qalam” (Golden Pencil) to popularize the most advanced achievements of national and international journalism, form a new way of thinking in accordance with the spirit of New Uzbekistan, establish universal human values, ensure the rights of the country’s people in information, increase attention to people in the country, raise people’s consciousness, strengthen the environment of openness and transparency in society, create conditions for media workers to demonstrate an active civic position, form and stimulate critical-analytical thinking and new approaches to creative activity in journalists.
The competition has one main National Award and prizes for five main directions – television, radio, print publications, internet journalism (1st, 2nd, 3rd places in each direction) and the best articles about Uzbekistan by a foreign journalist (print publications, TV, Internet – one first place, four second places).
The following incentive nominations will also be organized.

12. “Widely covered articles on environmental issues”
The winners of the competition will be awarded the following:
The winner of the main National Award of the competition will be awarded a special diploma, an “Oltin Qalam” statuette and a car.
The first-place winners will receive a diploma, an “Oltin Qalam” statuette and a cash prize in the amount of 200 base calculation value;
The second-place winners will receive a diploma, an “Oltin Qalam” statuette and a cash prize in the amount of 175 base calculation value;
The third-place winners will receive a diploma, an “Oltin Qalam” statuette and a cash prize in the amount of 150 base calculation value;
Incentive award winners will receive a diploma, an “Oltin Qalam” statuette and a cash prize in the amount of 100 base calculation value.
The contest will consider 5 to 7 articles published in print and online publications, broadcast on radio and television from March 31, 2022, to March 31, 2023.
Creative works for the contest will be accepted through the regional branches of the Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan, through the representative offices of Uzbekistan in foreign countries with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as directly from the authors in electronic form from the day the contest was announced in the press until April 15 this year.
It is requested to send the press articles (in PDF files, each article separately);
articles on Internet publications indicating the link;
video materials on television (from 3 to 30 minutes in telegram format, with annotation, summary);
radio audio materials (from 3 to 30 minutes, with annotation, summary);
creative works for photojournalism nomination (in JPEG, TIFF and PNG formats with annotation and summary);
to the Telegram page (O‘zbekiston Jurnalistlar uyushmasi) opened at the phone number (99-466-10-25) of the Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan.
The editorial office, TV or radio channel and creative teams can participate in the competition as a team. In this process, the above procedures must also be strictly followed.
Those who wish to participate in the competition for the nomination “Best non-fiction book published in 2022” will present one copy of their book to the Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan.
The following documents shall be attached to the creative works submitted to the competition:
– brief information about the author and his professional activity (resume);
– a copy of the author’s passport, and phone number.
