During a visit to the center for registration and diagnostics of motor vehicles, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented a project to streamline the busy intersections and streets of Tashkent, as well as eliminate congestion.
The project has set itself three main objectives - ensuring the safety and convenience of pedestrians, prioritizing public transport, increasing capacity and reducing the number of road accidents.
This project was implemented in a test mode at a major intersection in Tashkent — at the intersection of Bobura and Furkat streets.
"Safety islands" for pedestrians were created at the intersection, and traffic light control devices were installed at pedestrian crossings. Public transport stops have been redesigned for the convenience of boarding and disembarking passengers.
Also, a system of intelligent traffic lights was organized at the intersection, the duration of the signals of which is adapted to the intensity of the traffic flow.
As a result of such projects, the capacity of intersections will increase significantly, congestion will decrease, and public transport will become more efficient.
The President gave instructions on the expansion of these works and the full implementation of the principle of "the city is for pedestrians".
