On September 18, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Charles Michel, President of the European Council, in the residence reserved for him, as part of the program of his stay in New York City.
The issues of further expansion of the Uzbek-European multifaceted cooperation, primarily in the political, trade, economic, investment and humanitarian spheres, were considered.
The current highest level of bilateral relations was noted with particular satisfaction. The visit of the head of the European Council to Uzbekistan, the EU-Central Asia summits, the International Conference on Interconnectedness and economic forums were successfully held.
Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan's trade turnover with the EU countries has increased by 35 percent, major investment projects are being implemented with leading European companies, significant cultural events are being held.
During the meeting, issues of the early adoption of an Agreement on Expanded partnership and cooperation, the formation of favorable conditions for increasing the volume of mutual trade and investment, as well as deepening cooperation in the main sectors of the economy, including through the conclusion of bilateral documents on a long-term basis, were discussed.
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, stressed the leading role of the leader of Uzbekistan in promoting regional cooperation, strengthening relations of trust, good neighborliness and partnership in Central Asia.
Special attention was paid to the development of efficient international transport corridors, in particular the Trans-Caspian Multimodal route.
They also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan, including efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
